İnalcik taught Ottoman history at Chicago University as well as Bilkent University in Ankara.
ANKARA (AA) – World-renowned Turkish historian Halil İnalcik died in Ankara on Monday at the age of 100.
İnalcik was born in Istanbul in 1916. He studied modern history at Ankara University’s Faculty of Language, History and Geography, where he also earned his PhD.
He taught Ottoman history at Chicago University until 1993.
İnalcik was later invited to join the faculty of Ankara’s Bilkent University, where he founded its history department, and where he taught until this year.
Inalcik wrote numerous books and articles on history.
