The PKK ( "Workers' Party of Kurdistan") is categorized as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the US and the EU. The group resumed its thirty-year long armed campaign against the Turkish state in July 2015. Since then, the PKK terrorist attacks killed over 800 members of Turkish security forces. They have also killed more than 350 civilians, including one hundred children. At least 8500 PKK terrorists were killed in army operations during the same period. Police forces and the Turkish army launched attacks against positions of the separatist terrorist organization PKK and pursue its armed members in the south and southeast of the country and in northern Iraq in response to terrorist attacks by the organization within Turkey, which target civilians and members of security forces. The source, who asked not be named due to restrictions on speaking to the media, said, “The clashes occurred in the Mount Güven neighborhood of the Çukurca district. The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital.” He added, “An air-backed operation to apprehend the terrorists continues.” Tanju Özkaya and Musa Can Eraslan - Emin Avundukluoğlu - İlker Girit - ANKARA (AA) Airstrikes on PKK targets in an area close to the Iraqi border killed 21 terrorists Thursday, the Turkish military said.
Air and land operations in Çukurca, a mountainous district in the southeastern province of Hakkari, saw two soldiers martyred and five wounded, the Turkish General Staff said in a statement. The injured soldiers were rushed to the hospitals in the region. The fighting focused on two areas -- Uzundere Hisar and Mount Güven – between midnight and around 7 a.m. local time (2100 and 0400GMT), the statement said. Nine terrorists were killed by grounds troops while two others were killed by an armed aerial drone. The remaining 10 terrorists were hit by Turkish Air Force jets at around 8.25 a.m. local time (0525GMT). Meanwhile, two PKK terrorists were killed during a security operation in Doğubeyazıt, close to the Iranian border, the local governor’s office said. In a statement, the governorate of Ağrı province said security forces seized two rifles, eight grenades and ammunition during a raid.
