Bayern Munich proceed their way on Champions League as they beat Juventus 4-2 in extra time.
ANKARA (AA) - German football giants Bayern Munich snatched the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals ticket from Italian club Juventus' hands by beating them 4-2 in the extra time late Wednesday in Germany.
Visitors Juventus took the 2-0 lead in the first half of the Round of 16 second leg at Allianz Arena in Munich. The Italian club's French star Paul Pogba and Colombian forward Juan Cuadrado put the ball into the Bayern net in the first 45 minutes. The goals were just enough for "Juve" to be in the next stage in the Champions League.
However, Bayern Munich managed to come back in the last quarter as Polish striker Robert Lewandowski narrowed the gap to one at the 73th minute. German forward Thomas Muller's late header at the far post kept Bavarians' hopes alive, 2-2.
The match went to extra time as the first leg in Turin on Feb. 23 ended 2-2 as well.
At the 108th minute Bayern Munich's Spanish midfielder Thiago Alcantara put the ball into Juventus' net, 3-2. He shot into the bottom corner.
Two minutes later, Bayern Munich made it four.
French winger Kingsley Coman scored on breakaway, the Bayern youngster curled the ball into the corner. Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon was unable to save it, 4-2.
The victory made Bayern Munich go through the quarter-finals meanwhile Juventus have been eliminated.
In the other match of the night, Barcelona toppled English opponents Arsenal 3-1 at Nou Camp, Barcelona.
Barcelona forwards, Neymar, Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi were scorers for the home team. Arsenal's single goal was scored by Egyptian midfielder Mohamed Elneny.
Defending Champions League winners "Barca", who won 5-1 on aggregate, advanced to the quarter-finals phase in the tournament.
On Tuesday night Atletico Madrid eliminated Dutch opponents PSV Eindhoven 8-7 on penalties. Manchester City claimed the quarter-finals ticket despite a 0-0 draw against Ukraine's Dynamo Kyiv as the English team won the first leg 3-1 in Ukraine.
Manchester City qualified for the Champions League last 8 for the first time in their history.
Portuguese club Benfica, French heavyweights Paris Saint-Germain, Spanish giants Real Madrid and German club Wolfsburg are also in Champions League quarter-finals.
Champions League last 8 draws will be made on March 18 in Nyon, Switzerland.
The quarter-final matches will be played on April 5-6 and 12-13.
